Kalliomäki is an indoor environment researcher who has worked as a researcher in University of Oulu, Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland. Kalliomäki has also visited NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (USA) as a visiting research scholar. Currently Kalliomäki works as a Postdoctoral Associate in University of Maryland in the United States. Kalliomäki has participated as a field investigator, project manager and principal investigator in several international research projects related to hospital ventilation. Kalliomäki has authored or co-authored over 50 research publications mainly focusing on hospital ventilation. Kalliomäki gained his Doctorate from Aalto University (Finland) recently. In his doctoral dissertation Kalliomäki examined airborne contaminant escape from hospital isolation rooms generated by door openings and subsequent occupant movement through doorways. In his recent research Kalliomäki has focused particularly on ventilation and airborne contaminant control in healthcare settings.
